KIDNEY STONES

KIDNEY STONES

We all form kidney stones every day, and they clear out of the kidneys as soon as they form, just like gallstones.

The most common type of kidney stones is called calcium oxalate stones, and they form when calcium levels in the blood are not regulated.

Calcium levels are regulated by the thyroid gland through a hormone called calcitonin.

Calcium in high amounts in the blood, a condition known as hypercalcemia,is dangerous. Only 2% of total calcium is found in the bloodstream; the rest is stored in the reservoir (the bones).

Calcium is a contracting and constricting element.
Once it contracts the heart, it ejects blood out of the heart to the body.
Once it contracts the glands, it ejects hormones out of the glands.

Once it contracts the synaptic cleft, it ejects neurotransmitters from the synaptic cleft.

When it contracts the smooth muscles in the blood vessels, it causes constriction of blood vessels, leading to elevated blood pressure, simply causing hypertension.

If calcium is not regulated, it causes abnormal heart arrhythmias (abnormal heart contractions), which can lead to a heart attack.

What the calcitonin hormone from the thyroid does is pump calcium into the bones.

This process also requires vitamin D and vitamin K.
If calcium ends up in the kidneys and combines with oxalates (from nuts, green leafy vegetables, etc.), it forms calcium oxalate stones.

These stones will be cleared out if the kidneys are functional.
Handling Kidney Stones Requires Thorough Investigations, e.g.:

✅Thyroid function tests

✅Calcium levels in blood

✅Vitamin D levels

✅Kidney function tests

Advising a patient to stop spinach because of the oxalates doesn't make sense, because the real problem lies in uncontrolled calcium levels.

To Do:
Drop all factors that can damage the kidneys or inhibit their function, e.g.:

⚫️Sugar in all forms (including fruits and honey)

⚫️Wheat products

⚫️Seed oils Eg Sesame, canola, macadamia, sunflower, safflower, corn, cotton oils. (Anything written as vegetable oils)

⚫️Painkillers such as NSAIDs (e.g., Ibuprofen, Indomethacin, Meloxicam, Diclofenac, Aceclofenac, Naproxen, Celecoxib)

⚫️Steroids, including anabolic steroids used in gyms and skin lighteners

⚫️Use antibiotics only for the shortest time necessary, some (e.g., Vancomycin, Streptomycin) can damage the kidneys
Stop alcohol and substance use

Most Importantly:

▪️Start fasting
Take cholesterol-rich diets (e.g., fatty meats, fatty eggs)

▪️Take vegetables, both green leafy and cruciferous

▪️Use magnesium supplements,
magnesium and calcium do not sit together; therefore, when magnesium is introduced, calcium levels are controlled, Natural sources of Magnesium, are avocados, vegetables, nuts, sweet potatoes etc
