WHEAT AND IT'S DANGERS
Wheat - the mother of modern diseases!
Do you Know How Wheat Affects Your Health?
When you touch wheat, you've touched the best meals to most people.
When I tell a client, you've to let go the wheat to lose weight, fix your gut or improve your child's immunity, the objection is real!
Another told me, their grandmother ate wheat and she died at 90 or something.
But here's the thing.
The wheat in the Biblical times or the wheat that was some there decades ago is not what we've now.
In the 1950s, wheat was hybridized to increase yield and feed people to prevent death from famine.
Wheat then had a very simple structure that would be broken down by your digestive system. But the wheat we've now is nothing close to food.
Here are facts and effects of Wheat Worth Knowing
1. It raises your blood glucose higher than the table sugar.
Brown is even worse since it has higher amount of starch (Amylopectin A.)
2. Wheat proteins, gliadin and gluten destroy the gut specifically the lining, making it leaky and permeable.
This leaky gut is the basis of many conditions including autoimmune conditions, allergies, and chronic inflammation.
3. Wheat, especially the brown one, has fiber but bad fiber (Phytates).
This is what binds with minerals such as Iron, Zinc and Calcium and eliminates them, making you deficient.
4. Since it's a simple carbohydrate, it will be too much glucose within a short time, necessitating the body to convert it to fat and store away.
Long enough, insulin resistance, obesity, type 2 diabetes, and other lifestyle diseases.
When taken with another carbohydrate or sugars its even worse - bread and tea, chapati and some stew with potatoes or beans. Or some cake/donut and tea
5. Carbohydrates and sugars feed the bad gut flora (bacteria, fungi, etc) in the gut.
They produce toxins, that cross the brain-blood barrier to the pleasure centers in the brain.
This is the genesis of addiction, mental health issues and even depression.
The overgrowth of bad gut flora also causes indigestion, acid reflux, flatulence and stomach cramps as well as sugar cravings.
6. You'll hardly ever take wheat alone. It comes combined with other evils that drive inflammation.
Chapati/Mandazi/cakes all have bad oils or margarine, sugar and the wheat and sometimes even pasteurized milk.
This further drives inflammation and destroys the gut lining.
7. In Children wheat products increase hyper activity and becomes very hard for you to manage them.
In children with autism, it can make them stay awake till morning.
8. Wheat products increase appetite. They shut the satiety centers in your brain ( the points that tell you're full stop eating).
That's why if you take tea and bread in the morning, by 10 you'll be hungry. Or a cake to a child is irresistible, no matter how much they eat.
9. Wheat and other grains have prolactins.
In male, prolactins leads to men breasts and converts testosterone to estrogen.
The outcome is loss of muscle mass, low libido, erectile dysfunction etc.
In women, it causes high levels of estrogen, increasing the chances of breast and endometrial cancer, higher appetite, low libido, fat gain, bigger breasts
10. Wheat proteins reduce tryptophan (an amino acid that leads to serotonin.
Low levels of serotonin is what's called clinical depression. Before depression kicks in, people have anxiety, mood swings, etc.
11. Wheat protein, Gliadin, resemble an enzyme in the liver and pancrease (transglutaminase).
So, with a leaky gut and the undigested Gliadin will go to the blood stream.
As the immune cells attack the foreign Gliadin, they mistakenly attack the enzymes in the liver, pancreas and other organs leading to autoimmune conditions like auto immune hepatitis and pancreatitis, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis (skin condition)
12. Amylopectin A (starch in wheat) damages the Beta cells in the pancreas - those that produce insulin resulting in type 1 diabetes among children and teenagers.
13. Grains (wheat being the worst) result in cortisol impairment (this is our stress management hormone that follows the circadian rhythm).
The outcome is inability to lose weight, insomnia, low energy in the morning, energy at night, salt cravings, light headedness and low pressure.
Therefore,
As you indulge in your meals, know what you're eating and be wise!
P.S Because of the addictive nature of wheat, it's usually put in many processed foods and children's snacks to keep you and them hooked!
Eat real food! Protect your health. Guard it while you can, prevention remains the best approach to health.
Reversing some of this conditions is super hard and sometimes impossible.
If losing weight, eliminating wheat is a huge step to sustaining your weight loss journey.
With wheat, moderation and cheating leads to weeks and months of cheating, and finally back to the vicious cycle.
Remember, it may take up to 20 years for your body or that of your child to start showing the effects of your bad diet.
